wade aloneIn addition to farming full-time, Wade Dooley also has served as a featured speaker at a variety of events.

A 2005 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in agronomy, Wade is known as a “go-to” person for practical advice on farming. He’s been a featured speaker at field days, webinars and conventions; appeared on radio, television and in YouTube videos; and been quoted or featured in numerous publications and online blogs. Topics have included cover crops overviews, integrating small grains into row-crop and livestock operations, and grazing cover crops. He’s also conducted a webinar for beginning farmers on how his family is successfully transitioning the farming operation from one generation to the next.

They say that making mistakes teaches you more than success does; well, Wade likes to say he has learned A LOT already. His biggest pet peeve is attending seminars where the speakers talk all about theory but have no practical experience. With Wade, you’ll get the full benefit of his hands-on experiences in a candid, humorous, down-to-earth style. Professional Background

After college, Wade went into seed research for Sakata Seed America in Fort Myers, FL., specializing in watermelon and cantaloupe research. In 2007 he was ready to come home, and returned to Iowa to become the 6th generation on Glenwood Farm. Wade maintains several enterprises on his own, including popcorn and squash production along with traditional corn, soybean and hay crops. The 80-head cow-calf operation, with some direct marketing, is in partnership with his parents. The Dooleys farm a total of 1,200 acres in central Iowa including pastureland.

As a young farmer, Wade represented Iowa in 2010 at the “New Farmer Fly-In” sponsored by the Center for Rural Affairs and the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, and the “Drake Forum on America’s New Farmers: Policy Innovations and Opportunities,” both in Washington, D.C.
